Hi Susan,

We did end up decided to order the program to use with our son, and it was probably one of the best investments into his education we could have made. We began using the program the end of October. At the time he was reading at a 1st grade level as a 3rd grader. He was also diagnosed with a reading disability at that time after several weeks of testing. He just completed mid-year assessments and has made huge gains. He can read and comprehend at a 3rd grade level now which is awesome! He is considered at a 2nd grade level though as he doesn’t read enough words in a minute to be considered at a 3rd grade level yet. We know he still has a ways to go, but he is getting there!

We try to do lessons a minimum of 4 days per week and most weeks are 5-6 days. As an educator I knew we would need to really commit to the program if it was going to be effective and so far so good!

My question is, we have completed the minimum number of lessons at level 4 of the program and I am unsure if we should move to level 5 yet, or continue at level 4 for a time. I talked with his teacher and she does not notice any reversals, and I haven’t noticed any in a while either. He also doesn’t seem to struggle with left and right except when he is overtired, he will get frustrated with the Arrows Exercise and mess up. Once I informed him that he had to do them correctly to move on, things improved in this area tremendously, so I think it was just a motivation issue to get him to do it correctly. I feel like optimistically we could complete the program by the end of summer and maybe even switch to doing the Spelling Program at some point during the summer (as he is not good at spelling either, though it has improved). But as I have never gone through this before, I am unsure of what to do. I want to progress as quickly as we can, yet I don’t want to move on if it will set us back.

We get progress monitor reports every two weeks and it has been amazing to see his numbers go up every time he does the assessment!

Thank you for any insight you might be able to offer. And I would be happy to answer any other questions you might have to help us determine what we should do.
