Meet Schanece van Deventer, Manager at Edublox Krugersdorp

Schanece has been involved with Edublox Krugerdorp for almost nine years. She joined the team initially as a tutor, where her passion for teaching blossomed.

She then set her sights on adding even more value to the business as manager; and her dream came to fruition when she took over the day-to-day management in 2017. In 2021, she is still as inspired and driven as ever to help children in the Krugersdorp and Randfontein area.

She reflects on the last eight years: “My first success story with a one-on-one course sparked something in me very early on in my Edublox career. When my son was later diagnosed with dyseidetic dyslexia, I was in the unique position of experiencing reading problems from a dual point of view – as the parent, and as a tutor of specialised intervention services,” she recalls.

According to Schanece, her son’s progress with the Edublox programme continually fuels her dedication towards Edublox Krugerdorp. “Edublox has helped my son tremendously, although his dyslexia still affects his writing very mildly. Regardless, he loves reading – and his reading is above average. He is now passionate about learning and never gets anything below 70% for his schoolwork. I want to offer that same change to other parents’ lives,” she adds.

What makes you happy in your personal life?

I love spending time with my kids and family. My hobbies include reading, hiking, and biking.

Why are you passionate about helping children?

I experienced first-hand the effect a reading or learning problem may have on a child’s life and how it negatively impacts their world view. They deserve someone who believes in them in terms of their academic potential, and who doesn’t judge or bully them.

What is the best part of your day at Edublox?

When a child comes in, excited to start with the programme, and when they provide feedback on what they have accomplished since our previous class. I’m inspired when a child who has progressed slowly experiences seemingly sudden improvement or reaches a personal goal. Sharing in their excitement (and sometimes even shock or amazement!) is what I love about my job.

If you could give one message of hope to parents in your area whose children are struggling with reading and learning difficulties, what would it be?

There are people who can support you — you are not alone. I want parents to know that their child’s academic journey doesn’t end with a diagnosis of a learning barrier. Together, we can help them reach their full potential.

Feedback from an Edublox Krugersdorp mom:

“We have been with Edublox for three years now. When we started, we had already heard great things about Edublox Krugersdorp and, in particular, Schanece.

“We started doing one-on-one classes with her and within days of the lessons, we already saw great results, which are still visible today. I would like to express how humbled I am by Schanece — the professionalism, ethics, patience and care  she gives to the kids that make them love to work, read and learn.

“She makes a special friend that any child should have. I believe that some people are well-educated and trained to be good at what they do, but I also believe that some people just have it in them, and they are born with a gift. Schanece is gifted — and she is using her gift.”
