Ronelle has a postgraduate diploma in functional therapy and coaching, as well as a master’s in play therapy.
She has been operating her Edublox centre since 2019 as part of her professional therapeutic coaching centre in Hoedspruit – this is where she realised her passion to assist children with not only emotional functioning, but also in the development of their cognitive skills. “When I realised that a tool to support children from a cognitive perspective was so critical, I started searching and came across Edublox. I did a lot of research, and was convinced by the successes achieved to date that this was the way to go!”
What makes you happy in your personal life?
I do woodworking as a hobby, and I like to spend time with my family over the weekends. I see that as my prime time to go out and have breakfast.
Why are you passionate about helping children?
Children are very vulnerable, and I think sometimes we forget how much support they need to develop optimally. I’m passionate about supporting children in this journey – as well as parents!
What is the best part of your day at Edublox?
When the children come into class full of stories and energy. Their faces light up when I greet them with a ‘hello, aunty’ and ‘hello, uncle’; it just warms my heart every day.
In what ways have you seen children improve emotionally, in their behaviour, or reading and learning?
I’ve definitely seen many of the children enjoy improved concentration, which enables them to be more present in the moment. They seem happier, more content, and their listening skills are better. We can see that many of the children’s reading and spelling improve drastically, and the feedback from parents is very positive when this is confirmed by the school reports. The joy from the parents really motivates us to keep going.
If you could give one message of hope to parents in your area whose children are struggling with reading and learning difficulties, what would it be?
We are in survival mode to navigate our families through the challenges of Covid. Sometimes parents, especially mothers, can be hard on themselves and think I am not doing enough for my child. But you know what? You are doing more than enough! Your presence and everything you do to help them through this difficult time, academically and emotionally, is so important. And to the Edublox moms specifically – you can rest assured that you are making a worthy investment into their academic future by giving them the cognitive skills development support that will help them way beyond 2021.
