From Reading in a Mumble to Reading Loud and Clear

USA flagOur son, Jeremy, is 13 and in the seventh grade. He has struggled in school in reading, spelling, and writing since the first grade. We have tried all sorts of programs to assist him with very little improvement. Several of these programs have been found by periodically searching the internet. On Aug. 21 I first found the Audiblox site. I was immediately interested in the information represented there. I read and re-read every piece of information on the site. It didn’t take long for me to decide to order The Right To Read book and the blocks. After spending thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours, the price of this program is extremely reasonable. Then I had what seemed to be a long wait (2 weeks) for the shipment to arrive. I read the book the first day after it arrived. I then ordered the reading book with the cards and the video. We started the program a couple of days later.

A couple of weeks later, I decided to use the customized program option. This has been wonderful. We are on our third modification to the program. Every few days I send in status as to how he’s doing with the program and receive back some changes. Each one adds a little more challenge for him. In addition to being a big help to him in moving along as rapidly as possible, it has been a big help to me in encouragement. I don’t know which of these has been more beneficial. My last status report included the following, which they asked me to post here.

“One of the evenings that we found ourselves real close to bedtime before we could do “the blocks”, I chose to have him read out loud for 3 minutes from the same book that I had him read from before we started Audiblox. A little over a month ago, he read 199 words in three minutes or 66 words per minute. This time he read 299 words or 100 words per minute. He has not seen the book in-between, but I used the words from it the first couple of weeks prior to receiving the Rainbows book and cards. Not only did he read it considerably faster, but I noticed that there were fewer words that I had to help him with AND he read much more aggressively. He normally reads very quietly and almost in a mumble, but that day it was loud and clear. (My eyes are watering just writing this.) Of course, I pointed these observations out to him, told him how proud I was of his efforts and gave him a big hug. I know that this isn’t much to go on, but it has given me renewed confidence that we are on the right track.”

I don’t know what the final result will be, but if these first few weeks are any indication – WOW.

I hope that this gives encouragement to anyone considering the program or just starting the program. I know the this provides encouragement to us to keep doing the exercises as indicated.
