From Struggling to Read to Reading a Book in 2 Days!

  • Omolemo struggled with reading and spelling, was unhappy and not coping.
  • Since joining Edublox, there has been a transformation in all aspects of his development – academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • I am grateful to the teachers who contributed to moulding and coaching my son to be the person he is today: a happy, disciplined and achieving teenager with a brighter future ahead of him, says his mom.

Omolemo’s mom tells his story:

Omolemo is a kind, friendly, highly disciplined and organised child who strives to excel in everything he does. His hobbies include reading, drawing, colouring (artwork) and playing soccer.

Before becoming part of the Edublox family, Omolemo was very shy and withdrawn and struggled with phonics, which caused him to struggle with reading and spelling. He was not eager to go to school. As he was not happy and not coping, I moved him twice from different mainstream schools. Homework time was the most challenging for both of us.

Edublox to the rescue

Edublox came to our rescue. They assured me that the learning challenges could be reversed. Indeed, in Omolemo’s situation, this was the case.

Omolemo’s journey with Edublox started when he was in Grade 2. He is now in Grade 6, and the positive change in his behaviour and academic work is undeniable. Since joining Edublox, there has been a transformation in all aspects of his development – academically, socially, and emotionally. With the attention, love and coaching he received, Omolemo is now confident and able to interact with his peers at school and outside of school. Omolemo takes pride in his schoolwork and is no longer struggles with spelling. To my surprise, he is even doing well in Afrikaans, which is his second language.

A dedicated learner

In his spare time, Omolemo reads books or Bible verses on his phone. Omolemo has a collection of books, and he requests that I buy him a book every month. His reading speed is commendable for a child who once struggled to read and spell. Omolemo is now able to finish a whole book in two days. He did not only improve academically but emotionally as well, and he is often praised at school for good deeds and behaviour.

Omolemo is dedicated to his schoolwork, and works independently when completing his homework. He always tells me, “Mom, if you help me by just giving me the answers, you are not helping me because I will still not understand. You will not be with me at school, therefore, I have to figure out the answers on my own.”

Omolemo’s handwriting skills have changed over the years, and his work is neat. His term 3 marks for Social Sciences was 93%. That, for me, is applaudable. Omolemo is very disciplined. Even if I am not home, he will never play games during school days. He hardly watches television, and in his leisure time, he reads books (a series like The Diary of a Wimpy Kid).

Even when I am out of time due to work commitments, I am at peace knowing that he can complete his homework without my assistance. I am grateful to the teachers who contributed to moulding and coaching my son to be the person he is today: a happy, disciplined and achieving teenager with a brighter future ahead of him.

A final word

My advice to the parents struggling to raise children with similar challenges to those Omolemo experienced is to never give up on their children. They must place them in the EASY learning program. Finally, I want to tell other parents that they must trust the process and be patient. With time, they will see the positive results they are hoping for. There is hope!
